squaring : In algebra, the square of a number is that number multiplied by itself. To square a quantity is to multiply it by itself. Its notation is a superscripted "2"; a number x squared is written as x ². Thus: If x is a positive real number, the value of x ² is equal to the area of a square of edge length x. A positive integer that is the square of some other integer, for example 25 which is 5², is known as a square number, or more simply a square. It is often also useful to note that the square of any number can be represented as the sum (for 0≤n) For instance, the square of 4 or 4² is equal to This is the result of adding a column and row of thickness 1 to the square graph of three (like a tic tac toe board). You add three to the side and four to the top to get four squared. This can also be useful for finding the square of a large number quickly. For instance, the square of This can be written as a series in the following way: N^2 = \sum_{n=0}^{N-1} (2....   More from Wikipedia

squaring : In mathematical physics, the Dirac algebra is the Clifford algebra C ℓ 1,3( C) which is generated by matrix multiplication and real and complex linear combination over the Dirac gamma matrices, introduced by the mathematical physicist P. A. M. Dirac in 1928 in developing the Dirac equation..   More from Wikipedia

Question : I realise that squaring a figure removes a negative sign so that you always end up with a positive. But you could do that just by removing the minus sign. Is there any other purpose to the squaring operation?

Answer : There is a measure known as 'Absolute deviation from the mean' that does eactly what you're saying. It takes the absolute value of the deviations from the mean, sums them up and divides the sum by the number of observation. Then, why do we square the deviation (and take its square root?) after dividing by the number of cases? The measures known as variance and standard deviation have desirable mathematical properties that allows us to use the Normal distribution, whereas the absolute deviation doesn't have these properties. When you square the deviations, the deviations may become too large. That is why we take the square root. Read under the title, 'Properties of standard deviation,' in the attached source. It somewhat gives a justification for the squaring...   More from Yahoo Answers

Question : and how different than venus squaring mercury? why one is said to be good and the other bad? please explain the meanings if you can thanks for your answers!

Answer : I've wondered this too but after reading the info about the Venus square Mars aspect I guess it still brings a intense, sexual passion just as strong as the trine, sextile, and conjunct. However, this could also cause a bit of jealousy and possessiveness in the relationship. To answer your question, I suppose the good qualities of this aspect overpower the bad qualities. Venus square Mercury: This comparative combination may make it hard to communicate emotional issues, especially in romantic and marital relationships. The problem is likely that the Venus person is too uncritical, failing to challenge logical inconsistencies in your thinking; an over-indulging attitude. There is a blockage of real understanding and sensitivity to each other's feelings. It all depends on the two planets that are aspecting eachother for example, Mars-Saturn aspects will always be tough to handle whether its with a (conjunct, trine, sextile, opposition, or square). Why? Mars = war and action, and Sa....   More from Yahoo Answers
