formation of aldehyde from alkene (i) By ozonolysis of alkenes Alkenes react with ozone to form ozonides which on subsequent reductive cleavage with zinc dust and water or H 2 /Pd give aldehydes, Ketones or a mixture of both depending on the substitution pattern of the alkene. (ii) By hydration of alkynes Ethynes adds water in..

Flash Point of a Hydrocarbon
The explosive nature of a hydrocarbon is determined by its volatility. The volatility of any liquid depends upon the temperature. 'The flash point of any liquid is the lowest temperature at which a liquid hydrocarbon gives off enough vapor to form an explosive mixture with air'...

Low-carb Energy Diet, Using 33 Percent Less Hydrocarbons, Would Trim U.S. Consumer Fuel Costs By $438 Billion, Cornell Ecologists Claim - ScienceDaily (May 25, 2004) — ITHACA, N.Y. -- Just as low-carbohydrate diets are trimming the American waistline, more judicious use of hydrocarbon-based fossil fuels would reduce U.S. energy consumption by 33 percent and save consumers $438 billion a year by 2014, according to an analysis by Cornell University ecologists. Energy conservation and implementation of energy-efficient technologies also would allow significant savings in the production and use of chemicals, paper and lumber, household appliances, lighting and metals, the analysis showed. Microorganisms That Convert Hydrocarbons To Natural Gas Isolated - ScienceDaily (Aug. 20, 2008) — When a group of University of Oklahoma researchers began studying the environmental fate of spilt petroleum, a problem that has plagued the energy industry for decades, they did not expect to eventually isolate a community of microorganisms capable of converting hydrocarbons into natural gas. See Also: Matter & Energy Petroleum Fossil Fuels Energy Technology Earth & Climate Energy and the Environment Renewable Energy Environmental Science Reference Hydrocarbon Natural gas Petroleum geology Liquid nitrogen economy The researchers found that the groundbreaking process—known as anaerobic hydrocarbon metabolism—can be used to stimulate methane gas production from older, more mature oil reservoirs like those in Oklahoma. The work has now led to the recognition that similar microorganisms may also be involved in problems ranging from the deterioration of fuels to the corrosion of pipelines. A new OU initiative led by Joseph Suflita, Director of the Instit....

Question : ____no double bonds on carbon ____be broken down into other chemicals ____there are double bonds ____be broken down into other chemicals ____double bonds with a ring formation ___ ___used in air fresheners This is for my daughters high school biology homework -- What info I can find is ' aromatic hydrocarbons or arenes, alkanes, alkenes and alkyne-based compounds' BUT these terms ARE NOT in her textbook --- any other ideas of what they could be called in 9th grade terms??

Answer : alkane-- saturated with most hydrogens possible so it means that there are no double bonds, so that's #1 #2, alkenes #3, from the information i'm thinking aromatic hydrocarbons. logical, right? but it should probably be alkyne because alkane, alkene, and alkyne are the 3 types of hydrocarbons

Question : Alkanes and Alkenes. Procedure A. Ignition Test 1.) I pour a drop of hexane in an evaporating dish and ignite using a splinter then i do another test using toluene, and compare the result. B.Baeyr's Test I do another test called Baeyr's test on which: 1.) I pour 1 ml. of hexane in a test tube and few drops of KMnO4. I cover it with a cork and shake taking care that the substance wont touch the cork then i observe. 2.)I do the same test with benzene Next the acetylene on which:..

Answer : it sounds too much like you need to learn this so im not going to give you the answers but if you check out the link, it will explain. anything that is unsaturated will yield a sooty flame. saturated hydrocarbons burn clean.
