Scale factor - A scale factor is a number which scales, or multiplies, some quantity. In the equation y= Cx, C is the scale factor for x. C is also the coefficient of x, and may be called the constant of proportionality of y to x. For example, doubling distances corresponds to a scale factor of 2 for distance, while cutting a cake in half results in pieces with a scale factor of ½...

Answer : has it given you a point???....e.g s.f 3 around point 4,2??? if not pick a point i usualy go with 0,0 say if you go up 1 square and over 2 squares to get to the first corner of your origional shape and its s.f 2 u then from point 0,0 go up 2 squares and over 4 squares.

Question : The Area of a circle is 16 pi square inches. After the circle is dilated the circumference of the new circle is 16 pi inches. What is the scale factor? (a)1 (b)2 (c)1 over 4 (d) 1 over 2. Please also show how to get answer. Thanks

Answer : Let r1 be the radius before dilation, and r2 after dilation. area = pi r1^2 = 16 pi => r1 = 4 in perimeter = 2pi r2 = 16 pi => r2 = 8 in So, r1:r2 = 4:8 = 1:2
