Venn diagrams were conceived around 1880 by John Venn. They are used in many fields, including set theory, probability, logic, statistics, and computer science. The principle of these diagrams is that classes or sets be represented by regions in such relation to one another that all the possible logical relations of these classes can be indicated in the same diagram. Answer : Sure, you can make one in MS Word. A Venn diagram shows the intersection of two sets. Let's say you wanted to show the number of people who have cars, the number of people who have cell phones, and the number of people who have both. Create one circle (use the circle drawing tool) to represent the people with cars. Make it a color. Put in an identifier like "People with cars" and the number, say 46. Create another circle with part of it overlapping the first circle. Normally this is done by lining them up horizontally, and putting the overlap area in the center. Color this circle a different color. Put in the identifier and the number. In the overlap section, you are showing the people with both cars and cell phones, and the total that intersection represents. Use this example to do your particular example. Note that you cannot compare CA to MD as they don't inherently share anything, and people cannot be in CA and MD at the same time. So there is no intersection....   More from Yahoo Answers
