Introduction on Method of waste management:
As industries and world population are growing, the quantity of waste being dumped is also increasing. For leading a healthy life society has to efficiently manage the waste produced by it. Waste management is concerned with the activity of collecting, transporting, processing, recycling, disposing and monitoring the waste dumped by the people in a society and around the world as a whole. Waste materials disposed of by humans adversely affect the health of human race and environment at large. Waste material under waste management includes solid waste, liquid waste, gaseous waste and radioactive waste as well.
Preventing and reducing the amount of waste being disposed of – People and organizations should be made aware of the requirements for waste management. And efforts should be made to reduce the amount of waste materials. People around the globe should be encouraged to use recycled products. Natural recyclable products should be encouraged.
Recovering energy from waste materials –These days it is very popular and interesting to see the ways of generating energy from waste materials. Various types of machines have been developed to transform waste materials into some form of energy and that energy produced can be used for the purpose of cooking, heating and for providing power to various other machines.
3. Biological reprocessing – Organic things like food, paper and plant materials can be reprocessed by methods like composting.
Sanitary Landfill – With proper planning, design and required manpower sanitary landfill can be proved as a growing method of waste management. It is convenient but requires a good amount of manpower. Land once filled can be reused also by other communities although it asks for maintenance.
Incineration –This method of waste management calls for a very less area of land hence is very famous in countries like Japan where land is a scarce resource. The some points of concern with this is that it requires a good volume of energy to operate, can emit micro pollutants and it requires skilled labor.
Ocean dumping –This is a controversial method of waste disposal as it affects the oceans adversely by overburdening them.
