Analyzing Data

Analyzing data is a very important tool during a research because raw data or information has a very less use without any processing or analysis.

Analyzing data is the process of interpreting the meaning of given information. This process is also known as analysis of data. It also includes interpreting the conclusions and future outcomes. Determination of significance and implications of the findings of the data is also included in analysis of data. More specifically, it is the process of applying statistical techniques to illustrate and evaluate data systematically. Analyzing data is a process of inspecting, observing and modeling data in order to highlight useful information and making conclusions, on the basis of which decision making can be affected. This process has multiple approaches enabling a researcher to suggest diversified techniques useful in business, science and many other domains.
There are two types of data: Qualitative and quantitative. Both of them are analyzed differently.Analyzing Qualitative Data: Analyzing data during qualitative research includes analysis of statistical procedures and their observations. The main methods of analyzing qualitative data are:

  • Interviews: The approach of analyzing data by using personal interview allows a researcher to focus on one person or field at a time which provides appropriate observation.
  • Focus Groups: Focus group method emphasizes focusing on one question at a time. This gives group views about a particular information.
  • Documents: Documents are prepared related to different categories, for example: training procedure and policies.
  • Observations: There are many qualitative attributes which are to be analyzed by observation. For example: behavioral patterns, personal skills etc.
Analyzing Quantitative Data: Quantitative data are basically numerical. It is analyzed using statistical procedures such as: mean or average. Other calculation can also be performed on quantitative data. These allow an observer to compare the changes in one population and another. These calculation may also make a researcher able to predict various future outcomes.
