An n-sided prism is a polyhedron prepared of an n-sided polygonal base, a translated copy and n faces combination consequent sides. Thus these combination expressions are parallelograms. All cross-sections corresponding to the base faces are similar. A prism in that the combination ends and faces are at right angles to the base faces. The cross section of a prism look like the base if it is parallel to the base.

Regular prism:  Prism with regular base polygon is called regular prism.

Given below are some of the examples on prisms.

Example 1:

Find the volume of the prism whose base area is 60 m2 and the height is 30 m?


Step 1: Given base area is 60 m2 and height is 30 m

Step 2: Volume of the prism is,  Volume = (Base Area * Height) cubic units

Step 3: Volume = 60 * 30

= 1800

So, the solution is 1800 m3

Example 2:

Solve for the lateral surface area of the prism whose perimeter is 40 m and the height is 18 m?


Step 1: Given, perimeter of prism is 40 m and height is 18 m

Step 2: Lateral surface area of prism, LSA = Perimeter of prism * Height

Step 3:  LSA = 40 * 18 = 720

So, the solution is 720 m2
